Worship Style: Sundays @ 11am
The rich heritage of classical music and traditional hymns are an important part of Swedenborg Chapel’s worship experience. While some churches tell their members what to think, we focus on how to think. In other words, we believe that what we do is often less important than understanding why we do what we do. Our worship and our lives center around that basic understanding. It is our belief that a contemplative service style, with its focus on thoughtful reading and interpretation of the Lord’s Word, offers the best environment for bringing about profound, soul-transforming change.
Communion
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month. Because we believe that the Lord is constantly reaching out to each of us in our lives, we also believe that his table is open to everyone. Therefore, we welcome all in attendance, regardless of religious affiliation or personal belief, to partake in the sacrament of the Holy Supper according to his or her own conscience. We celebrate with both wine and grape juice.
New Years Communion
Held on the first Sunday of the New Year, this is a special communion service that embraces the opportunity for renewal offered at the year’s turning. The service focuses on personal examination, the confession and forgiveness of sin, and the growth and rebirth that await us in the coming year.
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service 4:45 p.m.
An annual service of scripture lessons and traditional carols that retells the ancient story of the birth of our Lord. The service emphasizes the steadfastness of God’s love and the Lord’s desire to be closer to us. Special music, including a vocal quintet, brass ensemble, and our magnificent tracker organ, is an important part of this worship experience. The service closes with a congregational candle lighting.
Easter Service
A celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection and His gift of Divine Love, which give us the power to transform our lives by experiencing the fullness of love that we have been created to give and receive.
