In 1830, five societies (churches) gathered and created the Massachusetts Association of the New Jerusalem.  They were the churches of Boston, Bridgewater, Abington, East Bridgewater, and North Bridgewater.  Now the association consists of four societies located in, Bridgewater, Cambridge, Elmwood (East Bridgewater), and Newtonville.

The Massachusetts Association of the New Jerusalem is a regional organization that is affiliated with the General Convention of the Church of the New Jerusalem (dba The Swedenborgian Church of North America).  This association is charted to aid and support its constituent bodies.  Its members are made up of the members of the Local churches and is governed by a representative executive committee.   It works in conjunction with its corporate sister organization, the Massachusetts New Church Union, to distribute fiscal resources to the member churches.
